What is Britishness?

In Graphic Design, Typography on May 3, 2010 at 11:24 pm

A typographic response to an aspect of Bristish culture.

I have recently been set a brief to produce a 100% typografic solution based on British culture. We are British. We love to moan, and more to the point we love to moan about the weather. The weather is something that is commonly associated with Britain by foreigners and it is a common talking point within British culture. This gave me a solid platform on which to respond to the brief. Although we complain about the rain, i think there is also something quite pretty and delicate about it and i have tried to portray this typographically. Typophile Film Festival Opening Titles

In Graphic Design, Typography on February 7, 2010 at 2:09 am

Awesome opening titles for the Typophile Film Festival created by BYU design students. The thing that makes this animation even better is that everything in the film is real and there was no CG used. Obviously this could have been produced digitally with lots of special effects, but there is something about using real materials and photography that cannot be replicated. The way the materials react with each other and the slight imperfections of the objects all add to the rich viewing experience. Looks like it would have taken a painstakingly long time but nether the less a lot of fun to work on as well. Read the full story here.

The article is about Modernism and Post-Structuralism and talks about the importance of respect for the written word and presenting it as the author intended, rather than it be left to personal interpretation by the reader.
